About Me

I was borne in western Germany, where I studied Biogeography at the University of Saarbruecken. After completing my masters degree I immigrated to British Columbia, Canada. Since 1988 I have been living in northern BC about 15 km east of the little, picturesque town of Smithers. I have worked for over 17 years for the local First Nations (Wet'suwet'en) as a fish and wildlife biologist. In 2012 I abandoned my job and surrendered to my passion of hunting, fishing and photography.

Since my early childhood  wildlife and nature photographyhave always been a passion. Photographic documentation of essential features and scientific observations became part of my job as a biologist. Many pictures have been utilized for teaching ecological principals to co-workers and the general public.

In 2005 my photographic interest expanded into boudoir and studio photography. I took a special interst in the artistic lighting of people and objects. Light, its temperature, angle, strength and subtle shadows are what brings life and depth to images. Manipulating highlights and shadows and composing them in harmonic pleasing ways is a fascinating art in itself. A good photographer needs to understand light and compositional principles.

Working now for more than 15 years with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom proved as a well invested time since no traditional darkroom technique can match todays digital possibilities. Frequency separation, luminosity masking and displacement mapping are just some of the techniques, used to retouch especially portrait shots.

Compositing pictures require detailed selections and a good knowledge of light and perspective in order to appear realistic. The modification and adjustment of body features in people poses no probem and I can create the look that you like.

I am still looking for the challenge that can't be done with Photoshop, provided of course a halfway decent image exists to start with. I love working with smart objects, layers and masks to transform my visions and ideas into artwork.

More than 30 female models have posed  so far for my boudoir artworks and only very few of my over 45 000 archieved photos are exhibited here on my website. Only recently have I started publishing some of my work in calendars  and books.

Since I prefer my simple lifestile I have no intentions to commercialize my work to much, but rather produce a small number of high quality images that leave an impression with the art lover.
